ANITA: SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER is Freida Mock'a documentary about the impact of Anita Hill’s nine-hour long testimony in October 1991 before the Senate Judiciary Committee concerning allegations of sexual harassment of her by then Supreme Court nominee, now Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas when he was the chairman of the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, and she was his assistant. The testimony polarized the nation, and brought up issues of race and gender that made both the senators on the committee and the public at large uncomfortable. It also served to bring those issues to light in an indelible way, particularly those of sexual harassment in the workplace, prompting frank and open dialogue where there had been none before, and, sparking a cultural shift in the way such issues are perceived. Mock won an Academy Award™ for her 1994 documentary, MAYA LIN: A STRONG CLEAR VISION, and has since gone on to found The American Film Foundation, and she is the Chair of the Documentary Executive Committee and was the first Governor of the Documentary Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, all while continuing to make documentaries about American culture and history.
